What can I say? I’m a sucker for it. The less I know about a band the more I find myself drawn them. Bands like Ghost and especially Deathspell Omega have managed to build reputations, and more importantly, loyal fan bases despite the fact we know almost nothing about them, relying instead on the calibre of the material being released.
An enigmatic trio of musicians whose upcoming debut mini-album “Tacent Semitae” is as much Black Metal as it is a ritualistic soundtrack to the whirling, chaotic forces of the Abyss. Continue reading ADAESTUO’s “Tacent Semitae” – Reverence & Black Metal Entwine on Debut Mini Album
Since 2010, Hordes of the Black Cross has pledged to destroy, kept the black flame ignited within. From their first self-titled EP to their full length, the horde has been tearing the base apart with absolute chaos and turmoil. Preachers of good music, songwriting, strong assertive live assaults and having a headbanging night out, they can be coined out as a noteworthy black thrash act in Australia’s metal scene with a comparatively darker tone from the second wave; this band can bring a great alteration in any boredom infested metal culture. They have already shared stage with the mighty Inquisition, and some heavy Aussie guns like Destruktor, Abominator and Denouncement Pyre. And in coming November, they will be sharing stage with one of the most influential bands of the Aussie extreme metal scene Destroyer 666. We did an interview with Halla (Vocalist) and Thormentor (Drummer), that outlines the band all in all. Continue reading The Primordial Clash of Light & Dark: An Interview with Hordes of the Black Cross

I first encountered Rimfrost in the documentary ‘Black Metal Satanica‘ in which Hravn Decmiester was interviewed. I instantly checked their debut ‘A Frozen World Unknown’ and became very fond of their breed of black metal. For those who need an introduction to the band, Rimfrost are from Hagfors, Sweden and their music can be well compared to that of Immortal’s. Well, Rimfrost had oriented their sound with a Continue reading Review & Streaming: Rimfrost – Rimfrost
If you are one who lurks in the Black Metal underground you’ll most likely be familiar with ‘VIII’, who, after a self titled demo under the name ‘Division Hate’ in 2011, crunched their name down to its current form, a contraction of the word “eight” for its likeness to “hate”, and this ability for creative and experimental thinking reflects in the sound of their newest release.
This latest offering , titled ‘Decathexis’, is the follow up to 2014’s debut full length ‘Drakon’ from the Italian duo, both former members of defunct Black/Death outfit ‘Crowned in Thorns’ and is their most experimental offering to date, a sound that is initially reminiscent of ‘Khold’, adding Doom elements along with ritualistic sounds and really pushing through the boundaries on this release with the inclusion of a lot of Jazz elements and ambient/industrial soundscapes. The result is a dark and fascinating listen. Continue reading Review + Streaming: VIII – Decathexis
